Distribution in Iran. Guilan ( Ghahari et al. 2009a), Mazandaran (Farahani and Talebi 2012; Sedighi and Madjdzadeh 2015).

Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cape Verde Island, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Georgia, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Madagascar, Moldova, Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, former Yugoslavia ( Yu et al. 2012), Belgium ( Wesmael 1835 as Perilitus chlorophthalmus ; Yu et al. 2012), Croatia ( Papp 2010; Yu et al. 2012), Hungary ( Papp 1973 as Meteorus nigricollis ; Papp 2006; Yu et al. 2012), France, Poland ( Yu et al. 2012; Stigenberg 2013; Stigenberg and Shaw 2013), Korea ( Papp 2003b; Yu et al. 2012), Mongolia ( Papp 2009b; Yu et al. 2012), Montenegro ( Žikić et al. 2000, 2010), Norway, Sweden ( Stigenberg and Ronquist 2011; Yu et al. 2012; Stigenberg 2013; Stigenberg and Shaw 2013), Russia ( Tobias 1971; Yu et al. 2012), Tunisia ( Papp 1979 placed under the subfamily Zelinae), UK ( Marshall 1885 as Meteorus chlorophthalmus and as Meteorus pallidus ; Marshall 1889; Broad and Shaw 2009; Stigenberg and Ronquist 2011; Yu et al. 2012; Stigenberg 2013; Stigenberg and Shaw 2013; Knowler and Broad 2014).

Host records. Zele chlorophthalmus is a solitary larval parasitoid recorded of eight different Lepidoptera families: Depressariidae , Geometridae , Lasiocampidae , Lymantriidae , Noctuidae , Pyralidae , Tortricidae and Zygaenidae ( Yu et al. 2012) . It has been used as a biocontrol agent for Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner) ( Lepidoptera : Crambidae ) ( Stigenberg and Ronquist 2011). It is reported from Algedonia terrealis (Treitschke) , Eurrhypara hortulata (Linnaeus) , Trachycera advenella (Zinken) ( Lepidoptera : Pyralidae ) (Stigenberg 2013; Stigenberg and Shaw 2013).
