Material Examined. Five specimens (females).
Type Material Examined. Holotype: ‘‘ COSTA RICA. Punt [arenas] / Monteverde. 1,400 m / 22 Feb 1983 ’’ ‘‘unbaited / pit trap ’’ ( CMNC) female . Paratypes (4): same data as holotype ( CMNC) 1 female, ( BDGC) 1 female; same locality, ‘‘ 1,500 m / cloud forest, fruit traps; 11–18.VII.1983 / D.H. Lindeman ’’ ( CMNC) 2 females .
Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: vertical surface of clypeus not foveate; pronotal hypomeron carinate; inflexed portion of elytron without basal fovea; metathoracic wings reduced; pygidium with strong median convexity ( Fig. 77 View Figs ), without median longitudinal carina.
Description. Female. Total length 3.2–3.5 mm; greatest width 1.9–2.1 mm. Head. Clypeus not strongly produced anteriorly ( Fig. 76 View Figs ). Clypeal teeth well developed, widely separated, strongly reflexed. Clypeal emargination between teeth evenly rounded, vertical surface broad, not foveate. Apical margin of clypeus lateral to teeth strongly arcuate. Disc of clypeus concave, coarsely, densely punctate. Clypeogenal suture obscure. Gena strongly produced, forming angle at junction with anterior margin of clypeus. Vertex and gena coarsely, densely punctate. Pronotum. Convex medially, laterally explanate, shallow depressions laterally, with median longitudinal depression in posterior half. Anterior angles weakly acute. Sides anterior and posterior to lateral angles straight. Posterior angles broadly, obtusely rounded; not incised. Pronotum coarsely, densely punctate; setae pale, recumbent. Pronotal hypomeron convex, coarsely punctate; posterior lateral carina present. Elytra. Transversely and longitudinally moderately convex; lateral carinae not strongly elevated. Each elytron dorsally with seven striae, each stria indicated by two clearly wavy lines. Elytral intervals flat; each interval with row of small punctures on each side adjacent to striae; punctures bearing conspicuous pale, arched setae. Inflexed portion of elytron broad, evenly narrowed apically, lacking basal fovea, with transverse wrinkles and scattered punctures in basal third; striae eight and nine absent, ten indicated by row of punctures and sometimes obscure wavy lines adjacent to epipleuron. Epipleuron with moderately large punctures in basal third.
Wings. Metathoracic wings reduced to narrow, unfolded straps. Venter. Prosternum with large, shallow punctures. Mesosternum nearly impunctate medially; with large, shallow, annulate punctures laterally. Meso-metasternal suture roundly arched medially. Metasternum slightly convex medially, anteriorly with minute scattered punctures, scattered larger punctures posteriorly; laterally, punctures large, dense, annulate. Legs. Profemur coarsely, densely punctate ventrally. Protibia ( Fig. 75 View Figs ) unmodified. Mesofemur and metafemur with moderately spaced, elongate punctures ventrally. Metatrochanter unmodified. Metatibia unmodified. Abdomen. Apical sternite coarsely punctate. Pygidium ( Fig. 77 View Figs ) with strong median convexity, without median carina; short, shallow sulcus at base; punctures shallow, annulate.
Variation. Male unknown.
Bionomics. This species has been collected in fruit traps and unbaited pit traps in
77) pygidium, lateral. Scale line 5 0.5 mm ( Figs. 75 and 76 View Figs ), 0.25 mm ( Fig. 77 View Figs ). cloud forest at 1,400 –1,500 m. It has been taken during the months of February and July.
Geographic Distribution ( Fig. 78). This species is known only from the type locality on the Central Cordillera of Costa Rica .
