Diagnosis. This species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: vertical surface of clypeus with small median fovea; pronotal hypomeron not carinate; inflexed portion of elytron lacking basal fovea; metathoracic wings fully formed; pygidium with median longitudinal convexity; paramere apices divergent, narrowly rounded ( Fig. 39 View Figs ).

Description. Male. Total length 3.1–3.8 mm; greatest width 1.9–2.3 mm. Head. Clypeus not strongly produced anteriorly ( Fig. 37 View Figs ). Clypeal teeth moderately well developed, widely separated, moderately reflexed. Clypeal emargination between teeth depressed dorsally; vertical surface broadly V-shaped, with small median fovea. Apical margin of clypeus lateral to teeth slightly convexly arcuate. Disc of clypeus concave anteriorly, with medium-sized, shallow, annulate punctures separated by one diameter or less. Clypeogenal suture indicated by carina. Gena slightly produced, forming angle at junction with anterior margin of clypeus. Vertex and gena with dense, medium-sized, shallow, annulate punctures. Pronotum. Convex, explanate anterolaterally, with shallow longitudinal median depression in posterior half. Anterior angles approximately right-angled. Sides anterior and posterior to lateral angles nearly straight. Posterior angles obtuse, very weakly incised. Pronotum evenly, densely punctate; punctures medium-sized, shallow, annulate; setae pale, evenly curved. Pronotal hypomeron convex, shallowly punctate, not carinate posteriorly. Elytra. Transversely and longitudinally moderately convex; lateral carinae not strongly elevated. Each elytron dorsally with seven striae, each stria indicated by two feeble wavy lines. Elytral intervals flat; each interval with row of closely spaced, small, shallow, setose punctures on each side adjacent to striae; setae pale, strongly arched. Inflexed portion of elytron broad, evenly narrowed apically, lacking basal fovea, punctate in basal third; stria eight absent, stria nine weakly indicated in middle third, stria ten complete adjacent to epipleuron. Epipleuron densely punctate in basal third, with double row of punctures posteriorly. Wings. Metathoracic wings well developed. Venter. Prosternum with medium-sized, shallow punctures. Mesosternum with large, shallow, annulate punctures. Meso-metasternal suture narrowly rounded medially. Metasternum nearly flat medially, with very fine punctures; posteriorly, punctures larger, shallow, annulate; small impunctate area posteromedially; laterally, punctures large, shallow, annulate.

Legs. Profemur densely punctate ventrally. Protibia ( Fig. 36 View Figs ) very slightly widened medially in apical half; strongly expanded medially at apex. Mesofemur and metafemur with dense, small punctures ventrally. Metatrochanter unmodified. Metatibia not angulate, not crenulate; not lobed apically. Abdomen. Apical sternite densely, shallowly punctate. Pygidium moderately strongly convex with median longitudinal swelling; base with short, broad sulcus. Male genitalia. Parameres ( Figs. 38–39 View Figs ) with apices divergent, narrowly rounded, not setose.

Variation. Female. Total length 3.2–4.1 mm; greatest width 1.9–2.4 mm. Clypeal teeth more strongly developed. Protibia unmodified.

Bionomics. This species has been collected in dung and carrion baited pitfall traps ( Ratcliffe 1981), in flight intercept traps and pan traps, and by sifting forest litter. Ratcliffe (1981) found that this species preferred feces baits over carrion baits during 56 weeks of trapping in a primary forest near Manaus, Brazil. It has been taken year-round.

Geographic Distribution ( Fig. 40). This species is widespread in the Amazon basin. It occurs from the Brazilian state of Para in the east to Leticia, Colombia in the west.
