Type materials. Holotype: Male , Cambodia, Pursat Province, (N12 ̊05′34.2′′, E103 ̊11′10.1′′), 4.V.2010 (Bae Y.S., Le X. V. & Chae D.Y.), Gen. Slide No. INU-10615 . Paratypes: 1 ♁, Laos, PKK National Park (N18 ̊29′43.79′′, E103 ̊0′48.02′′ Alt. 561m), 2.VII.2017 (Bae Y.S., Na S.M., Lee D.J., Ko J.H. & Lee T.G), Gen. Diagnosis. Wing pattern of this new species is similar to S. melanobasis ( Hampson, 1906) from Japan. But it can be distinguished from the latter by the broad uncus and juxta, and short spinate cornutus in the phallus. In S. melanobasis , the uncus is elongated, U-shaped juxta and phallus has a long spinate cornutus ( Kim et al. 2021).
Description Adult ( Figs. 1A & B View FIGURE 1 ). Length of the forewing 8.0−9.0 mm in male. Head covered with grayish-brown scales; labial palpus slender, upturned, covered with grayish-brown scales.Thorax grayish-brown, mixed with dark brown scales. Ground color of forewing grayish-brown, with dark brown basal area; pale medial area with two dark brown spots at costal margin; orbicular stigma dark brown; postmedial line dark brown, undulated; distal area grayish-dark brown; adterminal line dark brown; terminal line ivory; fringe ivory, mixed with dark brown. Ground color of hindwing grayish brown; marginal shade dark brown; indistinct postmedial line dark brown. Abdomen light brown, with a subquadrate dark brown spot at 2 nd tergite. Male genitalia ( Figs. 2A & B View FIGURE 2 ). Uncus broadly rectangular, with hairs. Gnathos joined distally, hooked at apex. Valva elongated, angularly curved inwardly, with hairs along outer margin. Vinculum U-shaped. Saccus narrowly U-shaped, about half as short as uncus. Juxta broadly ovate, weakly sclerotized. Phallus elongated, slightly curved, about 1.5 times longer than valva, with a short spinate cornutus. Female genitalia. Unknown.
Etymology. This species name is dedicated with gratitude to Dr. Jae-Shin Kang, project manager (the Global Research Project II-2) of National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR), who contributed to the collection of Laotian specimens.
Remark. This new species is named by the authors Hanul Kim and Yang-Seop Bae.
