Range: — Colombia to Bolivia (LP), eastern Brazil.
Ecology: — Rare, known from a single Bolivian collection: Sperling et al. 5518, GH, MO, US ); terrestrial in humid forests; 850 m.
Notes: —Unique in Bolivia in having the receptacles or sporangial stalks with tubular yellow or orange glands; pinnae 2.5–5.5 cm wide; secondary veins nearly straight; and areoles 7–10-seriate. Meniscium andreanum Sodiro , from Honduras to Peru, may occur in Bolivia (see discussion under M. ensiforme ).
A Bolivian specimen (Kessler 11197, UC), previously determined as Meniscium lingulatum (C.Chr.) Pic.Serm. (= Thelypteris lingulata (C.Chr.) C.V.Morton ), a species ranging from Nicaragua to Peru, has been redetermined as M. arcanum by Fernandes (2015).
