Causus maculatus ( Hallowell, 1842)

Distichurus maculatus Hallowell, 1842: 337 , pl. 19. Type locality: “ Liberia, Western Africa ”.

Causus maculatus (Hallowel, 1842) : Bocage 1895c: 145.

Distribution. Widespread from Mauritania to Angola, eastward to Ethiopia. In Equatorial Guinea it has been recorded from Bioko as C. rhombeatus (Lichtenstein, 1823) ( Boulenger 1896; Bocage 1903) and from Río Muni at Monte Mitra in Monte Alén National Park ( Gonwouo & Nsang 2005) ( Map 37B ).

Comments. There are no precise records of this species for Bioko ( Mertens 1964a). Details of its natural history were provided by Ineich et al. (2006).

Specimens examined. No specimens have been found in the examined collections.
