Microsoma notatum Peters 1882a: 127 . Type locality: originally not stated. Designated as Cameroon by Chirio & LeBreton (2007).

Cynodontophis aemulans Werner 1902 . Type locality: “ Congo ”.

Polemon notatus aemulans Trape, J.F. & R. Roux-Estève 1995: 43 .

Distribution. This species ranges from Cameroon to the western region of Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Equatorial Guinea it has been recorded in Río Muni at Monte Alén National Park ( Lasso et al. 2002) ( Map 27B View MAPS 27 ).

Comments. Two subspecies are recognized on the basis of ventral scale number, P. notatus notatus and P. notatus aemulans ( Werner, 1902) . In Equatorial Guinea the nominal subspecies is present. The phylogenetic relationships of Aparallactinae are discussed by Portillo et al. (2018); among the included species of Polemon in this study, P. notatus represents the most phylogenetically differentiated lineage ( Portillo et al. 2018).

Specimens examined. One specimen. Río Muni: Monte Alén National Park (in the EBD collection, without EBD number).
