Deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small trees. Twigs terete. Leaves opposite, simple and entire, shortly petiolate. Flowers hermaphrodite, small, mainly in erect terminal panicles. Calyx campanulate, sinuately 4-dentate. Corolla hypocrateriform, white, with 4 lobes. Stamens epipetalous; anthers small, included or exserted; filaments short or long. Fruit a berry, usually blackish.
