Densely caespitose perennial; stems somewhat irregularly branched, forming cushions. Leaves (4-)5-8(-10) x (1-)1-5-2-5 mm, oblong-lanceolate, pubescent with simple or forked hairs, densely imbricate, persistent after withering and forming columnar shoots. Flowers solitary. Pedicels 6-20 mm, densely pubescent; involucral bracts absent. Calyx 3-5 mm, pubescent. Corolla 7-9 mm in diameter, pink with a yellow throat. Seeds 2-3 mm. 2«=40. • C. Pyrenees. Ga Hs.

Plants from the same area forming more even hemispherical cushions, with leaves 1-1-5 mm wide and shorter pedicels, and with 2« = 40, have been called A. hirtella Dufour , Actes Soc. Linn. Bordeaux 8: 100 (1856) and need further investigation.
