Perennial herbs; leaves opposite below, alternate above. Flowers in terminal racemes. Calyx equally 5-lobed. Corolla with cylindrical tube and 2-lipped limb; upper lip erect, flat, emarginate; lower lip 3-lobed. Stamens 4, didynamous, slightly exserted. Stigma 2-lobed. Capsule loculicidal; seeds numerous.
