Annual up to 40 cm; stems decumbent to ascending, with dense, patent, glandular hairs. Leaves 2-5 x 1-5-3-5 cm, rhombic to ovate-lanceolate, sinuate-dentate, rarely subentire, glandular-pubescent. Cymes 3- to 8(-10)-flowered, solitary; peduncles 6-15 mm. Calyx (2-5-)3-4-5 mm, strongly accrescent and enclosing at least lower half of berry. Corolla 9-14 mm in diameter, l j -3 times as long as calyx, white. Anthers 1-2 (-2-5) mm, yellow. Berry 6-10 mm in diameter, green or black, with stone cells; seeds 1-8-2-2 mm. I n =24. Locally naturalized as a weed or ruderal. [Br Ga Ge.] (Brazil.)

The degree of leaf-indentation and accrescence of the calyx appear to be correlated with differences in habitat.
