Flowering stems up to 15 cm, ascending, woody at the base; non-flowering branches short, procumbent. Stems hairy all round, densely and usually patent-villous. Leaves 9-15 x 0-5-2(-3) mm, linear to lanceolate, more or less acute, usually ciliate to above middle and sparsely hairy; veins distinct, midrib prominent, the lateral veins almost parallel.

Inflorescence up to 10 cm, with remote, many-flowered verticillasters. Bracts somewhat similar to the leaves but shorter and wider, with distinct lateral veins. Calyx (3-)4-5 mm, the lips of equal length; upper teeth up to 1 -5 mm, aristate, ciliate or with one-celled scabridities only. E. part of Balkan peninsula, mainly near the coast. Bu Gr Tu.

Contains several local variants, some of which may merit subspecific recognition.
