1. M. cristatum L. , Sp.Pl. 605(1753).
Stem 15-50 cm. Leaves 3-15 m m wide, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, entire or toothed. Spike 4-angled; bracts folded along m idrib, with ovate-cordate, pectinate base and long, entire, deflexed apex, yellowish-green, the basal p art variably tinged with purplish-red. Calyx 5-8 m m; tube glabrous except for 2 hirsute veins; teeth 1-5-4 mm, unequal. C orolla 12-16 mm, pale yellow, tinged at least on lower lip with purple; palate deeper yellow; th ro at closed.
