Type locality. ” Ootacamund or Udagamandalam : Ooty Lake in Nilgiris Mountains at an elevation of 2288 m; 34 ha, mean depth 3 m. It is highly eutrophic lake, heavy polluted from Ootacamund ", India ( Hudec 1991) .

Indian records. Tamil Nadu — Hudec (1991).

Many previous records of D. carinata from India ( Brehm 1950; Murugan & Job 1981; Murugan & Venkataraman, 1977) belong to D. similoides (see Hudec 1991).

Remarks. Valid species ( Hudec 1991; Benzie 2005).

Distribution. The species apparently present in a large area of Asia from Baluchistan through India to China and Sumatra ( Hudec 1991), but real range of its distribution is not clear and requires further study.

Daphnia (Ctenodaphnia) sumanae Rane, 1986

Type locality. " Mandla district , a ditch 30 cm. depth in the Narmanda river at Sahasthadhara about 6 km. North of Mandla ", Madhya Pradesh, India ( Rane 1986b) .

Indian records. Madhya Pradesh — Rane (1986b); General record— Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).

Remarks. Apparent junior synonym of D. lumholtzi Sars, 1885 (Sharma B.K. & Sharma S. 1990).
