(79) Alona sarasinorum Stingelin 1900 View in CoL
Indian records. Tamil Nadu — Venkataraman (1999b), Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2002, 2009); General record— Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).
Remarks. Valid species described from Indonesia ( Stingelin 1900), which is apparently present in SE Asia ( Idris 1983; Maiphae et al. 2005). Alona taraporevalae Shirgur & Naik, 1977 is considered its junior synonym ( Frey 1991a; Van Damme et al. 2010). A peculiar species, as it tolerates high salinities and occurs in brackish lagoons, an otherwise atypical habitat for most chydorids ( Frey 1991a).
Distribution. Oriental zone (Van Damme et al. 2010).
Alona taraporevalae Shirgur & Naik, 1977
Type locality. " Back Bay opposite Taraporevala aquarium, Bombay (26‰)"— present name: Mumbai ( Shirgur & Naik 1977) .
Indian records. Delhi — Arora & Mehra (2009); Madhya Pradesh — Shukla et al (2002); Maharashtra — Shirgur & Naik (1977); Sharma B.K. & Michael (1981); General record—Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).
Remarks. Junior synonym of A. sarasinorum Stingelin, 1900 ( Frey 1991a; Van Damme et al. 2010).
