Indian records. Andaman & Nicobar Islands — Venkataraman (1992d, 2000a); Delhi — Michael (1966a); Goa— Rane (2008); Jammu & Kashmir— Akthar (1972), Siraj et al. (2006, 2007); Karnataka — Ansari et al. (2008); Maharashtra — Pandit et al. (2007); Uttarakhand —Kumar et al. (2012; as “ denticulate ”); West Bengal — Sharma B.K. (1978), Michael & Sharma B.K. (1988), Venkataraman (1998c). General record— Fernando & Kanduru (1984), Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Murugan et al. (1998); Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).
Remarks. Valid species. It was described from USA ( Birge 1879).
Distribution. ”Holarctic. Other records should be reconsidered” ( Smirnov 1996). Indeed, some denticulatus - like forms are present in Africa ( Chiambeng & Dumont 2004) and the Oriental zone (Michael & Sharma B.K. 1988), yet they could belong to different species such as P. quasidenticulatus . This is the case for several
Picripleuroxus species in the Oriental region, a group that needs revision. Listed in Kumar et al. (2012) as “ P. denticulate ”, clearly a misspelling.
