Type data

This species was described based on a single male specimen collected by the American ornithologist and entomologist Melbourne Armstrong Carriker (1879–1965). He traveled extensively throughout South

America and collected specimens for some of the most renowned American museums of natural history, like the AMNH, the NMNH and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The specimens studied by Cockerell were collected during a trip to Venezuela between 1909 and 1910 ( Smithsonian Institution Archives 2019).
