Sergentomyia View in CoL includes more than half of the described phlebotomine fauna in the eastern hemisphere, approximately 280 species. As noted by Seccombe et al. (1993), Sergentomyia View in CoL species usually feed on ectothermic vertebrates, but some species (e.g. S. gomboki ) are known to take bloodmeals form mammals, including humans.
