Material examined

CHINA: Yunnan: 18 males and 12 females, Pianma, 26º0’ N, 98º30’ E, 1900m, 23 Jul. 2005, collected by Ben-yong Mao ( CLDU), Ji-shan Xu ( CLDU) and Hai-bo Pu ( CLDU).

Description

Male ( Figs 1–10 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ). Size small. Fastigium broad, width in front of eyes about 2.5–3.3 (2.87, on the average, n=10) times larger than length. Interocular distance 1.0–1.7 (1.28, on the average, n=10) times larger than width between antennae; Frons slightly oblique, foveolate; frontal ridge with low longitudinal sulcus, subobsolete below transverse facial sulcus; lateral margins nearly parallel. Lateral facial keels straight. Antennae filiform, reaching coxa of hind leg, any middle segment 2.1–2.8 (2.48, on the average, n=10) times longer than wide. Eyes oval, longitudinal diameter about 1.4–1.5 (1.44, on the average, n=10) times as long as horizontal one, and about 2.2–2.4 (2.27, on the average, n=10) times as long as subocular furrow. Pronotum nearly cylindrical, foveolate and rugose, anterior margin nearly straight, posterior margin with a shallow breach; median carina present, distinctly intersected by three sulci; lateral carinae absent; prozona 2.3–2.4 (2.33, on the average, n=10) times as long as metazoan (fig. 1). Prosternal spine conical, weakly compressed, apex subacute. Mesosternal lobes 1.0–1.3 (1.13, on the average, n=10) times wider than long; mesosternal interspace 1.7–2.4 (2.18, on the average, n=10) times as long as minimum width; metasternal lobes subcontiguous (fig. 2). Tegmina narrow scale-like, length 2.8–3.5 (3.21, on the average, n=10) times larger than maximum width, reaching at posterior margin of 1st abdominal tergite. Hind femur with upper carina smooth, terminating in an obtuse angle; apex of lower knee lobes spinous. Hind tibia with apical half nearly cylindrical, with 8 external and 9–10 internal spines on dorsal side; external apical spine very small. Abdomen with median carina. Tympana opening distinct, oval.

10th abdominal tergite narrowly excised in middle, with large, sheet furculae. Furculae with basal half nearly trapeziform, upright; apical half triangular, frontad curving. Supra-anal plate scutate with median area distinctly raised and longitudinally furrowed in basal half; lateral area with a process; lateral margin somewhat raised; posterior margin roundly rectangular. Cerci triangular, compressed, reaching to apex of supraanal plate; apex incurve and obliquely truncated, with upper angle sharp and lower angle obtuse. Subgenital plate conical; apex subacute (figs 3–4). Epiphallus with oblong lophi nearly projecting in a 90° angle from bridge; anchorae with apex obtuse; anterior projections outward oblique, posterior sides nearly rounded in lateral view; lateral plate with external margin straight; posterior projection stout and backward reaching at posterior margin of lophi in lateral view; bridge distinctly divided in middle (figs 5–7). Phallic complex illustrated (figs 8–10). Ectophallic membrane with an extra, spoon-shaped sclerite (figs 9–10).

Coloration ( Figs 49–50 View FIGURES 49 – 56 ). Body darkish green. Frons yellowish green. Fastigium, vertex green. Genae yellowish green with an oblique black stroke below eyes. Antennae yellowish green, darker towards apex. Eyes brown or brownish red. Postocular bands black, continued on dorsal area of lateral lobes of pronotum, tegmina and 5th abdominal tergite (fig. 1). Pronotum with disc green; lateral lobes with a yellow maculation, inferior margins black. Tegmina black. Fore and middle legs greenish yellow. Hind femora with basal three fifths greenish yellow, apical two fifths red; knee black; hind tibiae blue. Abdominal tergites darkish green; abdominal sternites and terminalia yellowish green. Furculae, cerci and apical half of supra anal plate black (fig. 4).

Measurements

Body length: male 19.5–20.7mm; pronotum length: male 3.8–4.1mm; tegmen length: male 2.8–3.5mm; hind femur length: male 10.0–11.0mm; antenna length: male 9.0– 9.5mm; eye length: male 2.1–2.2mm; interocular distance: male 0.6–0.7mm.

Distribution

China: Yunnan (Gangfang, Pianma).

Remarks

The male of the species is described for the first time. Sharing the same generic characters (especially on male furculae large, upright and curving, and on epiphallus with lophi large, oblong) with other four species, the species is transferred to Longchuanacris from Caryanda . The type locality of the species is at Gangfang (1900m), a village about 12 kilometres from Pianma (1900m). The female specimen at hand from Pianma and the type specimen sharing same morphological characters, they are surely congeneric.
