Family Endevouridae Lowry & Stoddart, 1997 View in CoL
Endevoura Chilton, 1921: 44 .— Gurjanova, 1962: 432.— J.L. Barnard, 1969: 342.— Barnard & Karaman, 1991: 484.— Ren, 2012: 127.
Type species. Endevoura mirabilis Chilton, 1921 , by original designation.
Included species. Endevoura includes 4 species: End. inusitata sp. nov.; End. mirabilis Chilton, 1921 ; End. prodigium sp. nov.; End. sinica Ren, 2012 .
Diagnosis. Maxilliped palp article 4 modified, spatulate.
Remarks. J.L. Barnard (1964) originally distinguished Ensayara from Endevoura on the claw-like maxilliped palp article 4, the reduced inner plate of maxilla 2 and the mandiblar palp that is attached level with the molar. As more species have been described, only the maxilliped character remains as a significant distinguishing character. The more derived genus, Endevoura , is found only in the western Pacific Ocean from Japan, through the South China Sea and into Australia.
