Biology. F. pusio is a well studied species (see de Carvalho et al. 2003) due to its economic importance and synanthropic and hemi- synanthropic habits ( Gregor 1975; Linhares 1981; de Carvalho et al. 2002; Leandro & D’Almeida 2005). It is associated with carrion ( Moura et al. 2005; Barbosa et al. 2009) and is a mechanical vector of eggs of Dermatobia hominis ( Gomes et al. 2002) . Parasitoids and mating pheromones were tested on F. p u s i o to control it in poultry farms ( Uebel et al. 1978 a, b; Marchiori et al. 2000, 2002, 2005; Marchiori & Silva 2001; Monteiro & Prado 2006; Marchiori 2007). Fannia pusio is known as an occasional pollinator of Sterculia chicha ( Sterculioideae , Malvaceae ) ( Taroda & Gibbs 1982).
Comments. F. pusio is a new record for Colombia. According to Chillcott (1961) it belongs to the sub-group pusio of the canicularis group. The monophyly of this sub-group was corroborated, but it includes F. perpulchra , an African species never previously classified in this group. The presence of an epiphallus and parafacial setae are characters supporting the clade [ F. perpulchra [ F. trimaculata [ F. pusio , F. femoralis ]]] ( Dominguez & Roig-Juñent 2008).
