Huntington Beach, southern California (Personal commication: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Fish Collection, San Pedro, California) to Chimbote, Peru ( Chirichigno and Vélez 1998) , including Gulf of California ( Jesus-Roldan et al. 1993). Benthic; depth: surface (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California), 1–385 m (4–1,263 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Robertson and Allen 2002).
