Species 30: Teuchophorus ctenomerus sp. nov. (male)

Etymology. Gr. kteís, ‘comb’, mèros, ‘thigh’, alluding to the conspicuous comb of pv bristles on mid femur.

Diagnosis. Small species. Eyes touching on middle of face. Third antennal segment deeper than long. Costa not thickened. Mid femur posteroventrally on its apical two-thirds with a comb of hair-like bristles. First tarsal segment of hind leg a little longer than second segment. Hypopygium rather large.

Material examined. Type material: Indonesia, Sulawesi Utara, Dumoga-Bone Nat. Park, river Tumpah (Picnic S.), October 1985. Station: 012/ Project Wallace,    male (leg. R. Bosmans and J. Van Stalle, I.G. No. 26.977) .

Male

Body length 1.3 mm; wing length 1.2 mm.

Head. Frons and face with shining greenish black ground colour. Eyes touching each other on middle of face. Palpi small, black, each with a very short apical bristlet. Rostrum brown. Occiput greenish black. Chaetotaxy as usual; two small postocellars. Postoculars black. Antenna (figure 132): short; first and second segments brownish black; third segment dark brown with lighter-coloured apex. Third segment deeper than long, roughly trapezoid, with a short, blunt apex just below its middle. Arista very shortly pubescent, about three times as long as antenna; basal aristal segment a little shorter than upper margin of third antennal segment.

Thorax. Thorax and scutellum with shining greenish black ground colour; pleurae more brownish tinged. Chaetotaxy as usual; acr uniseriate. A very short propleural bristlet above fore coxa.

Legs. Fore coxa brownish yellow; mid and hind coxae brown. Legs brownish yellow; mid and hind femora slightly more brownish; trochanters yellow.

Fore leg. Coxa anteriorly with short hairs and, towards tip, with a row of short and weak brownish bristles. Trochanter bare. Femur with a few inconspicuous, short preapical pv. Tibia shorter than femur (about 6:7); dorsally on apical two-fifths four short and weak bristles, shorter than diameter of tibia. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.3:0.12:0.07: 0.05:0.04:0.06.

Mid leg. Coxa anteriorly with short hairs; more exteriorly two weak, short bristles. Trochanter without bristles. Femur (figure 133) on its apical two-thirds with a concpicuous comb of equally long, brownish, hair-like bristles, a little shorter than diameter of femur; a rather strong preapical av. Tibia (figure 133) about as long as femur; two ad, one pd. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.4:0.15:0.1: 0.08:0.06: 0.06.

Hind leg. Coxa with a weak exterior bristle. Trochanter without bristles. Femur with one or two preapical av. Tibia about as long as femur; four rather short dorsal bristles; a short anterior bristle near base; ventrally a row of lengthened hairs that are slightly shorter than diameter of tibia. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.45:0.14:0.12: 0.1:0.07:0.07.

Wing. Wing (figure 134) hyaline, slightly brownish tinged. Costa not thickened. r4+5 and m1+2 apically very slightly divergent. Anal vein short, continued by a fold. Halters yellow. Squamae yellow with a darkened border, with brownish cilia.

Abdomen. Abdomen brown; venter lighter coloured. Hairs and hind-marginal bristles on terga short, dark. Hypopygium (figure 135) rather large, brown.
