Treatment

Aptinothrips iraniensis View in CoL sp. n.

Female aptera. With the generic character states indicated. Body generally pale yellow, extreme apex of abdomen and

mouth cone pale brown. Antennal segment I pale yellow; II–III mainly yellow, IV–V slightly brown; VI darker toward at apex ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–14 ). Head convex apically; cheeks very slightly convex; eyes with pigmented facets. Antenna 6-segmented; segment I broadest, without dorsal apical setae; II globular, pedicellate; III narrower, with thin pedicel; IV and V equal; VI conical. Prothorax slender, little broader than head; ferna divided medially. Pterothorax little broader than prothorax, short. Mesonotum and metanotum each with one pair campaniform sensilla. Tarsi 1-segmented. Abdominal tergites II–VIII with no discal setae medially, but with 4–8 setae laterally, with two pairs of posterior submarginal setae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–14 ); tergites I–VIII and X with one pair of campaniform sensilla (except VI with an extra pore on right side); IX with two pairs; in a paratype, tergites II–IV each with two pairs of campaniform sensilla; tergite VIII without posteromarginal comb; setae S1 on tergite IX about half length of setae S2; tergum X with complete median longitudinal split ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1–14 ); sternite I with 2 minute anteromedian setae, II with 4 (3 in one paratype) ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 1–14 ); sternite II with 2 pairs of posteromarginal setae, III–VII with 3 pairs; setae S3 longest on IV–VII, median pair on VII arising submarginally; sternite II with 2 discal setae (3 in one paratype), III–VII with 6–9 discal setae ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1–14 ); sternite VII with paired anterolateral pores .

Measurements (holotype in microns). Body length 1230. Head length (width) 125 (110), compound eye length (width) 42 (30). Prothorax length (width) 100 (142). Pterothorax length (width) 138 (150). Tergite IX setae S1 40, setae S2 75. Ovipositor length 200. Antennal segments I–VI length (width) 19 (27), 34 (25), 30 (17), 25 (18), 24 (18), 58 (18).

Male. unknown

Material studied. Holotype female, IRAN, Khorasan-e shomali province, Bojnourd, Sisab village, Natural Resources Research Station, from Poa bulbosa [ Poaceae ], 9.v.2020 (J. Alavi).

Paratypes: 1 female, same data as holotype; 1 female, same location and date as holotype, from Bromus inermis [ Poaceae ]; 1 female, same location as holotype, from grasses, 6.v.2020; 2 females, same location as holotype, from flowering Reseda luteola [ Resedaceae ] (Surrounded by various grasses), 29.v.2018 (J. Alavi).

Comments. The new species is very similar to A. rufus in the shape and the number of antennal segments, and was usually collected along with A. rufus but in smaller numbers. In A. iraniensis sp. n. the length of setae S1 on tergite IX is relatively long (vs. very short), and the abdominal tergites II–VIII lack discal setae medially (vs. with). This species is also similar to A. elegans in the number of antennal segments, but is separable from that by the key above.
