Materialexamined (3 ff) – Femaleholotype: Peru, Junin, Satipo , takenwithMalaise trap, 21–24 January 1984, leg. L. Huggert. – Onefemaleparatype: HondurasAtlantida, LancetillaTela , 15˚43’N / 87˚27’W, takenwithMalaisetrapinlowlandrainforest, 30 April 1995 , leg. R. Cave. – Onefemaleparatye: CostaRica, Alajuela , 20 kmSfromUpala, 20–26 March 1991, leg. F. D. Parker.
Typescondition – Holotypeisingoodcondition: (1) micropinnedventrallybymesosoma, (2) ultimate (14th) flagellomereofleftantennamissing. Twofemaleparatypesare alsoingoodcondition: (1) gluedoncardpointbyitsrightmesopleuron (fromHonduras), (2) gluedbyitsrightmesosomalsidedirecttothepinand (3) rightflagellomeres 13–14 missing (fromCostaRica).
Typedepositories – Holotypeandoneparatype (fromHonduras) aredepositedin ZMLU, one paratype (from Costa Rica) in HNHM, Hym. Typ. No. 12240 .
Etymology – Thespeciesname “levigena” referstotheshinygenaofthehead.
Description of the female holotype – Body 3 mm long. Antenna short, about two-thirds lengthofbodyandwith 16 antennomeres. Scapethriceandpenultimateflagellomere 1.8 timesaslongasbroad (Fig. 301). – Headindorsalviewtransverse, clearlytwice (60:29) as broadaslong, eye 1.6 timeslongerthantemple, templereceded (Fig. 302). OOLone- third longerthanPOL, ocellismall. Eyeinlateralviewalmost 1.7 timesashighaswide, genabe- yondeyeweaklybroadeningventrallyandaswideaseye, hairpunctate, interpuncturesas largeastolargerthanpunctures, polished (Fig. 303). Clypeustwiceaswidebelowashigh medially, itslowermargintruncate (Fig. 299). Face 1.5 timesaswideashigh, transversely finelystriate, clypeusfinelypunctate (similartothatofgena), shiny. Malarspace 1.5 times longerthanbasalwidthofmandible. Vertexandocciputrathertransverselysubstriolate.
Mesosomainlateralviewstout, 1.2 timesaslongashigh, rugosetoscabrous. Notaulixdistinct. Scutellumrugose (cf. Fig. 82 View Figs 75–87 ). Fourdenticulesofpropodealcarinasmall (cf. Fig. 293). Hindfemur 2.6 timesaslongasbroadmedially (Fig. 300). Hindbasitarsusaslongas tarsomeres 2–3 andone- thirdof 4thtarsomerecombined.
Forewingone- thirdshorterthanbody, i.e. 2.1 mmlong. Pterostigmawide, twiceas longaswide, issuing r fromitsmiddle, r short: 3–SR 2.6 timeslongerthan r, SR1 indistinctlyS-form (oralmoststraight), 1–R1 0.75 timesaslongaspterostigma (Fig. 304).
Carapaceindorsalview 2.1 timesaslongasbroad, moderatelybroadeningposteriorly, longitudinallystriated, interstriationsrugulose (Fig. 305), hindthirdofcarapacerugulosetouneven, dull. Bodyblack. Antennablackish, scapeapicallyandpedicelfaintlyrusty. Palpipale. Tegulablackish, parategulabrown. Forelegyellow, coxaandfemurbrownish. Middleleg: coxablack, trochantersandtarsusyellow, femurdarkbrown, tibiabrownishyellowish. Hindleg: black (coxa) toblackish (femur + tibia), trochantersandtarsusyellow. Wings subhyaline, pterostigmadarkbrown, veinsyellowtolightbrown, brown.
Description of the two female paratypes – Similar to the female holotype. Body 4 mm long. Penultimateflagellomerecubic (fromHonduas). Forewing: pterostigma 2.1 timesas longaswide.
Maleandhostunknown.
Distribution – CostaRica, Honduras, Peru.
Taxonomic position – The new species, Micochelonus levigena , is close to M. cavei Pappviewingtheirmoreorlesssculpturedscutellum , fairlythickhind femurandshortcorporallength; thetwospeciesdifferfromeachotherbythe followingtraits:
