DISTRIBUTION: N.W. Argentina; S.W. Bolivia; S. Peru; N. Chile.

COMMENT: May be conspecific with fulvus ; opimus and fulvus cannot be separated on the basis of karyotypes; see Gallardo, 1979, Arch. Biol. Med. Exp., 12:80.
