Glaucocharis paulispinata sp. n.
( Figs. 4 View FIGURES 2 – 10 , 13 View FIGURES 11 – 16 , 21 View FIGURES 20 – 22 )
Type material. Holotype 3, Hanmi, Mêdog (29°13ʹN, 95°18ʹE), Tibet, 2380 m, 9.viii.2003, leg. Xinpu Wang and Huaijun Xue, genitalia slide No. LWC06350. Paratypes: 5 3, 1 Ƥ, same data as holotype ( NKUM).
Diagnosis. This species is similar to G. setacea Song & Chen, 2003 , but can be distinguished by the valva almost straight ventrally, and the phallus with seven small spinelike cornuti placed medially in the male genitalia. In G. setacea , the ventral margin of valva is angled at three fifths, and the phallus has several long spinelike and many tiny spinelike cornuti. This species aslo resembles G. grandispinata sp. n., but its gnathos is bluntly rounded at apex, which is angled dorsoapically in the latter species.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 2 – 10 ). Forewing length 6.5–7.0 mm. Frons and vertex pale yellow. Labial palpus pale yellow mixed with pale brown on outer side, yellowish white on inner side. Maxillary palpus pale brown, yellowish white distally. Antenna with dorsal surface yellowish white and pale brown alternately, ventral surface yellowish white ciliated white. Patagium pale yellow. Tegula pale brown, posterior margin with long and thin pale yellow scales. Thorax yellowish white. Forewing covered with pale brown to blackish brown scales, dense in basal area, sparse and mixed with orange yellow in medial and distal areas; antemedian line yellowish white, lined with pale brown to blackish brown, angled outward near costa, then parallell with termen; reniform stigma pale yellow edged with pale brown, 8-shaped; postmedian line pale brown to blackish brown, inconspicuous, outcurved at anterior one third, posterior two thirds obliquely sinuate; apex pale yellow, with white apical stripe; termen pale yellow, with three black marginal spots; fringe pale brown, with yellowish white median line. Hindwing and fringe white. Legs yellowish white except tibia of foreleg pale brown on outer side. Abdomen white and pale brown alternately.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 11 – 16 ). Uncus slender, narrowed to blunt apex; ventral surface with two small thumblike protuberances at base, each bearing a long seta. Gnathos slightly shorter than uncus, ventral surface swollen from middle to distal one sixth; distal one sixth armed with sclerotized pleats, dorsally with tiny dentations, bluntly rounded at apex. Valva long and narrow, broad at base, narrowed to bluntly rounded apex. Costa well-sclerotized, produced to a long and thin apical prong exceeding apex of valva. Juxta rounded, slightly narrowed distally. Phallus short and thick, about three fifths length of valva, curved slightly; cornuti being seven small spines arranged in a row.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 20 – 22 ). Papilla analis ovate, about one third length of apophysis posterioris. Tergite eight about four fifths length of apophysis anterioris. Ductus bursae long and thin, curved as C-shaped posteriorly, thickened slightly towards corpus bursae. Ductus seminalis arising from anterior one fourth of ductus bursae. Corpus bursae rounded; signum rounded, placed at posterior one third of corpus bursae.
Distribution. China (Tibet).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix paul- = small, and the Latin spinatus = spinous, in reference to the small spinelike cornuti in the male genitalia.
