Global distribution: AT, AU, NA, NT, OL, PA.

Argentinian distribution: Buenos Aires, Catamarca, Chubut, Mendoza, Neuquén, Río Negro, Santa Cruz.

Ecology: The species was found in freshwater environments, such as springs and slow-flowing creeks with muddy sediment. It was recorded from a wide altitude range (179–4026 m a.s.l.), with temperature ranging between 15 and 28ºC, in alkaline waters (pH: 8.1–8.3) with electrical conductivity ranging from 204 to 1026 μS/cm, showing that this species can tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions, as was demonstrated by Van Doninck et al. (2003).
