Smaragdina yajiangensis sp. nov.
( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A–I, 5B).
Type material. Holotype: CHINA: Sichuan: ♂, Yajiang, Hekou, Shanbeihoucun, 2709m, 29.998646°N, 101.032267°E, 2009. VI.2, leg. Ganyan Yang (IZ-CAS). Paratypes: CHINA: Sichuan: 2♂♂, 1♀, same data as holotype; 1♂, Yajiang, Hekou, Shanbeihoucun, 2838m, 2009. V.27, leg. Ganyan Yang (IZ-CAS).
Measurement. Length: males: 2.8–3.0mm, female: 3.9mm. Width: Males: 1.3–1.5mm, female: 1.8mm.
Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the type locality “Yajiang”.
Diagnosis. The new species can be recognized by the combination of the following characters: small body size and round median lobe apex.
Remarks. The new species shares similar dorsal color patterns with S. quadrimaculata Lopatin : scutellum black, each elytron with two black markings. But they can be distinguished by the following characters: the humeral marking of the new species is smaller than that of S. quadrimaculata Lopatin , not touching the scutellum. Also, the aedeagus of the two species are different, the median lobe apex of the new species is widely rounded, while that of S. quadrimaculata Lopatin is arc-curved. Moreover, the spermathecal duct of the new species is loosely coiled up about 10 times, whereas that of S. quadrimaculata Lopatin is spirally coiled up nearly one hundred times.
Description. Coloration pattern: Head fulvous with black vertex, mandibles with black tips, underside of mouth parts dark brown; 1st antennomere fulvous, 2nd and 3rd antennomeres darker, 5th–11th antennomeres dark brown. Pronotum fulvous; scutellum black. Elytra fulvous with two black markings: one basal transverse band, not touching suture and lateral margin of elytra (sometimes the band slightly narrowed in the middle); the other spot at apical quarter, not connected to suture and elytral margins. Underside black, propleura fulvous. Legs fulvous, while tarsi dark brown.
Body: slender. Head: small, lustrous. Mandibles short, labrum slightly incised at anterior margin, length ratio of maxillary palpomeres 0.1:0.4:0.4:0.5; while that of labial palpomeres 0.3:1.6:2.6; mentum inverse-trapezoidal emarginate. Clypeus smooth, anterior margin nearly straight; frons with a shallow fovea in the middle, as well as a few shallow punctures around; inner sides of eyes sparsely pubescent; vertex smooth. Antennae: slightly extending beyond base of prothorax, pubescent, 1st antennomere strongly clavate, 2nd rounded, 3rd very slender, 4th triangular, a little longer than the third one, serrated from 5th segment onwards.
Prothorax: transverse, about twice as wide as long, moderately convex; anterior margin slightly concave, lateral margins slightly rounded, convergent anteriad, posterior margin slightly rounded, thickened in scutellar area, anterior angles rectangular, posterior ones broadly rounded, all margins except the anterior margin narrowly bordered; surface lustrous; posterior thickening with distinct punctures. Scutellum triangular, lustrous and impunctate, apex slightly elevated.
Elytra: cylindrical, 1.67 times as long as wide at humeral region, with coarse round punctures; punctures uneven, in irregular rows on disc, and disappearing in elytral apices.
Underside and legs: thickly clothed with silvery pubescence; apex of pygidium arcuate. Tarsi slender, length ratio of protarsomeres 0.9:0.7:0.2:1.4.
Aedeagus: Median lobe moderately bent ventrally, with widely rounded apex, the underside of median lobe glabrous, lateral arms of the aedeagus wide and deeply emarginated.
Female. Body more robust than males; Pygidium: posterior border of pygidium shallowly emarginate; Spermatheca: hook-shaped, spermathecal duct loosely coiled up about 10 times; Rectal apparatus: ventral sclerites of rectal apparatus large, dorsal central sclerite narrow medially; lateral ones with pale spines.
Distribution. China (Sichuan).
