Distribution. Western Atlantic— USA ( Virginia, Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil ( Alagoas, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay ( Melo-Filho & Melo 2001a, b; Lalana et al. 2004; Melo-Filho 2006, 2008; Coelho et al. 2007; Spivak et al. 2019).

Remarks. We found two specimens of Munida forceps from São Paulo deposited in the MZUSP collection ( 1 spec., MZUSP 13217, N.Oc. “Prof. W. Besnard”, st. 6693, 26°41ʹS / 046°27ʹW, 430 m, 19.i.1998; 1 ♂, MZUSP 16244, Ilha da Queimada Grande, 50–80 m, no coord., coll. C. Cunha, x.2003) that were used to obtain sequences. This species is found between 44 and 426 m depth but there are records at 630 m and 950 m ( Lalana et al. 2004; Melo-Filho 2006, 2008). The record in Uruguay is dubious ( Spivak et al. 2019).
