HEMICOTELLES TORO & CABEZAS, 1977
( FIG. 1A, B View Figure 1 )
Type species: Lonchopria ruizii Herbst, 1923 .
Diagnosis: Females of Hemicotelles can be easily differentiated from those of the other genera of Colletinae by T6 with a posteromedial longitudinal ridge (this study; Supporting Information, Fig. S11B) [T6 with a posteromedial protrusion that can be either weak and rounded (Supporting Information, Fig. S11C) or strong and subtriangular (Supporting Information, Fig. S11D) in Xanthocotelles , and T6 with no modification (Supporting Information, Fig. S9A–C) in Colletes and Mourecotelles ]. Males of Hemicotelles are diagnosed through the following combination of characteristics: apical mandibular tooth much longer than preapical tooth (this study; Supporting Information, Fig. S15A), legs dark-brown to black (modified from: Toro & Cabezas, 1978; see also Fig. 1A, B View Figure 1 ) and horizontal surface of T1 much shorter than T2 (modified from: Michener, 1989; see also Supporting Information, Fig. S12C) [apical tooth only slightly longer than preapical one (Supporting Information, Fig. S15B) in Mourecotelles , legs pale-yellow to darkorange ( Fig. 1E, F View Figure 1 ) in Xanthocotelles and horizontal surface of T1 subequal in length to T2 (Supporting Information, Fig. S12D) in Colletes ]. Hemicotelles can be further distinguished from Colletes by forewing with a straight second recurrent vein in both sexes (modified from: Toro & Cabezas, 1977; see also Fig. 3B View Figure 3 ) [forewing with second recurrent vein either sigmoidal ( Fig. 3D View Figure 3 ) or slightly arcuate outwardly ( Fig. 3C View Figure 3 ) in Colletes ]; and from both Mourecotelles and Xanthocotelles by subhorizontal and vertical surfaces of the metapostnotum separated from each other by a transverse carina, albeit broadly interrupted medially in both sexes (modified from: Michener, 1989; see also Fig. 4D View Figure 4 ) [metapostnotum without transverse carina ( Fig. 4C View Figure 4 ) in Mourecotelles and Xanthocotelles ].
Additional species: Hemicotelles magallanes Toro & Cabezas, 1977 .
Comments: Hemicotelles is the least diverse genus of Colletinae with only two described species – H. magallanes (southern Chile and Argentina) and H. ruizii (central Chile).
