Clinopodes verhoeffi Bonato, Iorio & Minelli, 2011

Published records: “Kirjat Anawim” [Qiryat Anavim] (Verhoeff 1934, sub Geophilus flavidus porosus ). New records: none.

Distribution in Israel: known only from a single locality in the Jerusalem mountains ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 A). Global distribution: outside Israel, published records are from the Carpathians and Anatolia but require confirmation.

Taxonomic and nomenclatural notes. Originally described as a subspecies of Geophilus flavidus , it has long been a taxon of uncertain status and identity. After a comparative reassessment of the genus Clinopodes , it has been recognized as a distinct species, while rejecting the name porosus because of homonymy (Bonato et al. 2011).
