Anagyrus raidahensis Hayat View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs 8–12 View FIGURES 8 – 12 )
Female. Holotype. Length, ca 1.4 mm. Head yellow; frontovertex pale brownish yellow; occiput with a brown patch on sides of foramen magnum. Mandible in apical half black. Palps white. Antennal scape yellow, with a brown band at about middle; pedicel brown with apex yellow; F1 and F2 pale brown, F3–F6 and clava brownish yellow ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 8 – 12 ). Mesosoma largely yellow; pronotal collar and sides white, anteriorly dark brown; mesoscutum anteriorly dark brown, becoming pale yellow laterally and posteriorly; axilla dark brown to brown; scutellum yellow with a median longitudinal pale brown streak; tegula yellow in basal half, brown in distal half; propodeum medially yellow, laterally up to spiracles brown; mesopleuron brownish yellow; metapleuron yellow. Wings hyaline; fore wing veins brown. Legs pale yellowish white; dorsal margins of femora, both margins of fore tibia, basal half or so of mid and hind tibiae with brownish infuscation; fifth tarsal segments of mid and hind tarsi brown. Metasoma dark brown, sides and venter brownish yellow; distal half of hypopygium dark brown; third valvula pale yellow.
Head. Frontovertex width 0.48× head width; head, in frontal view ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 8 – 12 ), 1.26× as broad as high; POL 1.9× OOL; antennal torulus with upper margin slightly below lower margin of eye, and removed from mouth margin by a distance slightly less than torulus height; frontovertex with slightly raised, polygonal reticulate sculpture; malar space with elongate reticulate sculpture; setae white; eye setose, each seta shorter than a facet. Maxillary palp 3- segmented, labial palp 2-segmented ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 8 – 12 ). Antenna ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 8 – 12 ) with scape 4.18× as long as broad; pedicel about one-third length of scape, and slightly (1.15×) longer than F1; funicle segments all longer than broad, F1 1.85× as long as broad; F2 shorter than F1; F3–F5 subequal in length; F6 slightly (1.14×) longer than F5 and subequal in length to F1; clava slightly longer than F4–F6 combined. Relative measurements (holotype, slide)—head frontal width, 50; head frontal height, 39.5; frontovertex width, 24; eye height, 24.5; malar space, 15; antennal scape length, 23.
Mesosoma. Mesoscutum with fine polygonal reticulate sculpture, except the cells transversely elongate in about anterior fifth; scutellum with sculpture similar to that on mesoscutum, but the cells slightly longitudinally elongate; setae on mesothoracic dorsum largely white; propodeum from about level of spiracles to lateral margins with silvery white setae. Fore wing ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 8 – 12 ) 2.26× as long as broad; venation extending half wing length; marginal vein 1.2× as long as postmarginal vein, both combined slightly shorter (0.83×) than stigmal vein; costal cell with two lines of setae on ventral surface; linea calva interrupted by several lines of setae, but posteriorly open. Hind wing 4.33× as long as broad. Relative measurements (holotype, slide)—mesosoma length, 58; fore wing length (width), 118 (52); hind wing length (width), 84.5 (19.5); mid tibia length, 47; mid basitarsus length, 16; mid tibial spur length, 10.
Metasoma. Outer plate of ovipositor with apex bearing a sclerotized boat-shaped structure, not connected to the paratergite ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 8 – 12 ). Relative measurements (holotype, slide)—TVII length, 52; ovipositor length, 88; third valvula length, 14.5.
Male. Unknown.
Material examined. Holotype ( ZDAMU, registration No. HYM. CH.680), ♀ (on slide under 5 coverslips, slide No. EH.1689), labelled “K.S.A.: ASIR: Raidah, 13.iv.2012, (SN), Coll. Z. Ahmad”.
Distribution. Saudi Arabia : Asir.
Etymology. The name of this species is derived from the name of the type locality, Raidah.
Comments. This new species belongs to a small group of species of Anagyrus Howard , characterized by a 3- segmented maxillary palp and 2-segmented labial palp. To this group belong six species described from the Hawaiian Islands by Perkins (1910) and one species from Costa Rica (Noyes 2000). Beardsley (1969) proposed a subgenus, Nesoanagyrus , for these six species. We compared the descriptions of the six Hawaiian species described by Perkins (1910) and the Costa Rican species. The new species appears to be quite different from all these species in body colour, and colour and dimensions of the antennal segments.
