Differential diagnosis
Cheilosia egregia is the single taxon of the subgenus Rubrocheila Barkalov, 2002 . The species is easily distinguished from all congeners by the following combination of characters: abdominal terga orange in anterior ⅔ parts, and black in posterior ⅓, basoflagellomere with a dusky yellow colour and arista with distinct pilosity.
