Pleopeltis pycnocarpa (C.Chr.) A.R.Sm., Candollea View in CoL 60(1): 282. 2005.
= Polypodium pycnocarpum C.Chr., Index Filic. 326. 1906.
= Polypodium bryopodum Maxon, Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 17: 568. 1916.
Range: — Peru and Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA), probably also northwestern Argentina.
Ecology: —Very common; saxicolous and rarely epiphytic in dry shrubby habitats; (1250) 2000–4250 m.
Notes: —Intermediate between P. buchtienii , which is larger and occurs in more humid habitats, and P. subvestita , which has paler, ovate blade scales and grows at lower elevations. The oldest name for this species may be Pleopeltis pinnatifida Hook. & Grev. , type from northern Argentina. Pleopeltis argentina (Maxon) A.R.Sm. , from Argentina, may occur in southern Bolivia. It differs from P. pycnocarpa mainly in having areolate (vs. free) venation.
