Diagnosis. Pselaphomorphus carltoni is characterized by the combination of the rusty body coloration and yellow pilosity; additionally the humeral elevation of the elytralacks teeth, and the aedeagus almost symmetrical, without apical arms.
Description. Male. Body length 2.5 mm. Body flattened dorsally, rusty, with yellow pilosity. Head pearshaped (length 0.7 mm, width 0.4 mm), base of antennal tubercle as long as diameter of eye. Head longitudinal sulcus wider between eyes, spindle-shaped. Eyes kidney-shaped (diameter 0.2 mm). Antennal length 2.1 mm. Antennomere length as follows: 1 (0.16 mm), 2 (0.06 mm), 3 (0.1 mm), 4 (0.14 mm), 5 (0.16 mm), 6 (0.12 mm), 7 to 9 (0.2 mm), 10 (0.18 mm), and 11 (0.32 mm), clava absent. Maxillary palpi light brown, with short and even pilosity. Pronotum elongate (length 0.7 mm, width 0.5 mm). Lateral lobes broad, triangular, basally and apically round. Antebasal lobe rectangular, at least five times wider than long. Pronotal disc square, longitudinal and transverse sulci with same widths thoroughout. Elytra length 0.8 mm, width 0.9 mm. Humeral elevation present, humeral teeth absent. Sutural fovea rounded, sutural stria projected to elytra midle. Basal discal fovea present, rounded and followed by discal depression. Abdominal segments I–V dorsally with length as follows: 0.3, 0.15, 0.1, 0.15, 0.15 (mm). Ventrally, segment V rounded distally, segment VI medially depressed, pygidial suture present, U-shaped. Genitalia. Phallobase regular, with short arms. Median lobe in dorsal view widening to apex, distally divided into two truncated arms separated from each other by membranous area, projected dorsally. Accessory lobes absent ( Figs. 10 View FIGURE 10 B, 10C).
Type material. Holotype (male): “ Ecuador, Pichincha, Tinalandia, Sto. Domingo 16 km E. 750 m. 0°16’53” S, 79°3’39”W. III-26 to 27-1999. FIT. R. Brooks and D. Brzoska” ( KSEM). Paratype: 1 male, Ecuador, Pichincha, Tinalandia Province, 680 m. 16 km SE Santo Domingo, VI-15-1975 ,, berlese, leaf litter and soil, S. Peck ( FMNH).
Etymology. Patronymic; named after Pselaphinae specialist, Dr. Christopher Carlton (Louisiana State Arthropod Museum), whose strong support is gratefully acknowledged.
