Type material. Holotype: male, China, Prov. Yunnan, Simao, Beishan , 17.v.2013, H.L. Han leg., slide HHL-6161- 1, coll. NEFU.
Diagnosis. Externally, by dark reddish-brown wing colouration and shape of forewing with parallel margins this species resembling S. brunnescens ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 16–30 ), but differs well from it and other members of the genus by light violet tint, pale whitish subapical and costal dashes, diffused green suffusion in costal area and tiny yellowishorange with black nucleus reniform. Male genitalia refer to its affinity with the taxa of the S. clara group by its shape and differs from all known Stenoloba species by special structure of the distal part of valva, resembling cucullus in other families of the Noctuidae . The structure of the vesica differs from the other members of the group by the absence of cornuti and presence of the sclerotised band in the medial part of vesica
Description. Adult ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 1–15 ). Wingspan 26 mm. Head and thorax reddish-brown ochreous, mixed with greyish and greenish scales; patagia greenish-brown; apical part of thoracic tuft reddish brown; abdomen grey. Forewing rather narrow, arcuate at base; costal and ventral margins almost parallel, terminal margin convex; ground colour of forewing dark reddish-brown with light purplish tint; wing pattern consisting of indistinct, diffuse darker and paler greenish-brown patches and grey dashes; basal field brownish-green with black basal mark and mark on ventral side of wing; subbasal, ante- and postmedial lines indistinct, appearing as weak darker suffusion; orbicular indistinct, represented by small whitish mark; reniform weakly defined, blackish, rounded, with paler orange center with black scales inside, surrounded by paler greenish-brown suffusion; costal area spotted with five small brown marks, separated by greenish suffusion or pale greyish; postmedial line traceable, as indistinct multiplied band; subterminal field slightly paler than medial field; apical angle with oblique, obsolescent pale-greyish mark; subterminal and terminal lines a row of diffused greyish dots and streaks; cilia dark brown, with pale basal line. Hindwing dark greyish brown, with distinct discal spot and interrupted terminal line; cilia pale yellowish brown.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 36–39 ). Uncus small, reduced; tegumen short with narrow lobes; vinculum narrow, about two times as long as tegumen; juxta cordiform, with long apical extension; valva relatively short, broad at base, gradually constricted apically; costa tubular, strong, extends apically and forms structure similar to cucullus in some other subfamilies of the Noctuidae (tribe Apameini , tribe Hadenini ); top of valva obtuse, rounded, ventral margin of costa tapered and covered with strong setae; cucullus large, narrow at base, broadly extended and abrupt distally. Aedeagus relatively large, carina sclerotised; vesica rather simple, large, tubular, coiled, with one small terminal diverticulum; in ventral surface with sclerotised ribbon. Female unknown.
Etymology. The species named by its characteristic morphological character: cucullus-like top of valva.
Distribution. Southwest China (Prov. Yunnan). The species is known in China only from its type-locality Prov. Yunnan, Simao, where it occurs in mountains at elevation 1200–1500 m. Single male was collected in July.
