Diagnosis. Female: dorsal idiosomal shield mostly smooth, laterally ornamented with striation and oblique reticulation; bearing 14 pairs of setae, mostly long and serrated, except z2, z5 and J5 minute. Sternal shield reticulated, bearing three pairs of setae and two pairs of lyrifissures, st4 on small platelets. Epigynal shield reticulated. Peritremes extending forward to j3 level. Ventrianal shield small, narrower than epigynal shield, nearly pentagonal, anterior margin straight, widest at anus level, bearing one pair of pre-anal setae ( JV 2), solenostomes gv3 posterior to JV2; JV1 and ZV2 on the soft cuticle, JV5 smooth. Calyx of spermathecal apparatus basally bulbous, medially tubular and terminally flared, atrium with heavily sclerotised walls. Cheliceral movable digit with three teeth, fixed digit with seven teeth. Leg IV with three long, barbed macrosetae.

MALE: Dorsal shield bearing 16 pairs of setae, r3 and R1 on dorsal shield. Sternitigenital shield reticulated, bearing five pairs of setae and four pairs of lyrifissures. Peritremes extending forward to j3 level. Ventrianal shield reticulated thoughout, triangular, anteromedially convex, bearing three pairs of pre-anal setae, solenostomes gv3 close to anus. Spermatodactyl L-shaped, foot short, toe blunt.

Specimens examined. Rarotonga, 1 female, ex. coconut ( Cocos nucifera ) leaves, 21 October 2017, by Q.-H. Fan; 3 females, 2 males, 1 deutonymph, ex. same host and collector, 22 October 2017. Rarotonga: Matavera, 1 female, ex. sea hearse ( Hernandia nymphaeifolia ) leaf, 13 March 1983, by U. Gerson.

Remarks: This species was originally described from water hyacinth ( Eichhornia crassipes ) in USA ( Banks 1904). It was previously recorded from Hibiscus tiliaceus in Aitutaki by Collyer (1980) and an unknown tree in Rarotonga by McMurtry & Moraes (1984). It is known from more than 40 countries in the Afrotropical, Australasian, Nearctic, Neotropical, and Palaearctic regions ( Moraes et al. 2004; Demite et al. 2018).
