Type locality. Sudan > Darfur Prov. > Jebel Marrah .

Mus. 1922-262 \ Potamonectes lynesi holotype J. Balfour-Browne det. [species name and holotype hw. by Balfour-Browne]" . Paratypes ( BMNH) : 2 ♂♂, 1 ♀ (the ♀ labelled as " Allotype ") same data of holotype " Potamonectes lynesi cotype J. Balfour-Browne det. [species name and cotype hw. by Balfour-Browne]"; 1 ♂ " Egypt Soudan, Darfur , El Fasher, 7400 ft., 9.IV 1920, H. Lynes \ Potamonectes lynesi cotype J. Balfour-Browne det. [idem]" ; 1 ♂ " Ang-Egp. Sudan, W. Darfur, Miss. M. Steele \ Gebel Murra, Katanga, 6650 ft., 19-23.IV.1932, W. side of mountain \ Potamonectes lynesi cotype J. Balfour-Browne det [idem]" .
Additional material examined. Sudan: Tergotounga, Ravin des Satiy , 2600 m, 15.XI.1959, Ph. De Miré, Potamonectes lynesi Balf. - Br. C. Legros det. (1 ex. ♂ IRSNB); Terongtonga [Tergotounga?], abreuvoir, 2000 m, 13.XI.1959, Ph. De Miré (2 exs. ♀♀ IRSNB). [These three specimens most probably come from the same locality but translated or transcribed differently. In Bruneau de Miré & Legros (1963) this species is not cited, but under Colymbetes fuscus (pag. 878) the following indication is given: "Djebel Marra au Sudan: Tergotounga, 2500 m, 16-XI-59". I’ve not been able to identify this locality] .
Description. TL 5.3–5.6 mm; MW. mm 2.5–2.7 mm. Oblong-oval, slightly convex. General colouration dark.
Head reddish-yellow, with a large dark band on the front and around the eyes. Mouthparts reddish, antennae testaceous, with segments 5–11 darkened apically.
Pronotum wide, maximum width just before the base. Sides rounded, bordered, posterior angles quite rounded. Angle between pronotum and elytra more or less visible.
Elytra oblong-oval, with maximum width near the base. Longitudinal rows of punctures visible.
Dorsal colouration ( Fig. 12a) reddish-yellow with extended dark-brown patterns: on pronotum two wide dark lines on anterior, posterior and lateral sides and two large discal spots; on elytra the dark colouration is very extended, leaving only an humeral and few others pale markings.
Underside dark-brown, proepisterna, prosternal pleuras and epipleuron paler. Surface covered by a dense and impressed punctuation.
Legs reddish-brown, with pro and mesotarsi darkened. Metatarsi almost black.
Male: Protarsi dilated. Anterior claws ( Fig. 12b,c) with the inner slightly shorter and robust than the outer. Median lobe of aedeagus and parameres as in Fig. 12d,e.
Female: Quite duller, with pronotum shorter than base of elytra, with lateral sides of pronotum more straight and with less visible lateral border.
Distribution ( Fig. 56). Up to now known only from the Darfur Region, Mount Marrah, Sudan.
