Diagnosis. Nemophora assamensis shares the W-shaped light mark at the forewing base with N. divina ( Caradja, 1939) and N. magnifica Kozlov, 1997 ; these three species jointly form the divina species-group ( Kozlov 1997a). Nemophora assamensis differs from N. divina by the incomplete forewing fascia and deep indentation in the ventral valvar margin, and from N. magnifica by larger eyes in males (interocular index 1.0), broken distal line in the Wshaped basal mark and longer vinculum (> 2 × length of valva). Among species recorded in India and Sri Lanka N. assamensis resembles N. augantha ( Figs. 17, 18 View FIGURES 17–24 ) and N. seraphias ( Figs. 4, 5 View FIGURES 1–8 ). From N. augantha it differs by the presence of the W-shaped light mark at the forewing base, the absence of silver-grey stripes in the basal third of the forewing and by the enlarged compound eyes in males. From N. seraphias it differs by the presence of two or more longitudinal yellow stripes in the apical third of the forewing and the absence of a finger-like process at the apical part of phallus.
Description ( Figs. 16 View FIGURES 9–16 , 78 View FIGURES 69–92 ): see Kozlov (1997a).
