Diagnosis. SIF = 7BS-B-3-3111.1000; fPp = B/B/NNB; PL> AM> AL; fD = 2H-6-6-2-6-6-4-2; DS = 34; V = 42; NDV = 76; posterior scutal margin biconvex; f 1 at level of S 1, f 2 at level of S 2; Ip = 830. Standard measurements are in Table 3 View TABLE 3 .

Type deposition. Holotype in SMF (pA.10.1980.1).

Distribution and hosts. This species was described from a single specimen collected ex Atherurus africanus Gray ( Rodentia : Hystricidae ) in Gabon (Makokou).

Remarks. Afrotrombicula vanbreei is similar to A. rickenbachi and differs from it in the length of S 1 = 21 (overpass the base of subterminala) vs. 14–15 (not reaching the base of subterminala) and by the position of f 1 at the level of S 1 vs. distal to S 1.
