Taxonomic history. Subjective synonym of Ephutomorpha André, 1902 according to André, 1902c: 48 (invalidly so since Bothriomutilla predates Ephutomorpha ). Resurrected to generic status by Ashmead, 1903: 307. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The male of the type species was associated and identified (as Mutilla abdominalis Westwood, 1843: 19 ) by Gerstaecker, 1874: 42.
