Brachymutilla André, 1901 b (as subgenus of Mutilla Linnaeus, 1758 ). Z. Hymen. Dipt. 1: 287. Male, female.

Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Mutilla ( Brachymutilla) gynandromorpha André, 1901 (male, female; syntypes) by subsequent designation of Ashmead, 1903: 323. The later designation of Mutilla ( Brachymutilla) androgyna André, 1901 (male, female) by Bischoff, 1920: 136 is invalid.

Taxonomic history. Raised to generic status by André, 1902c: 20. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The type species was described from both sexes by André, 1901b: 305.

Distribution. Afrotropical.
