Type species. Huacotilla diaguita Casal, 1962 (female), by original designation (junior synonym of Protophotopsis ( Protophotopsiella) humeralis humeralis Schuster, 1949 (male), according to Cambra & Quintero, 1997: 270).

Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Protophotopsiella Schuster, 1949 according to Cambra & Quintero, 1997: 270 (erroneously indicated as synonym of Protophotopsis Schuster, 1947 by Cambra & Quintero, 1997: 264). Subjectively invalid name.

Sex association. The male of the type species was associated and identified (as Protophotopsis ( Protophotopsiella) humeralis humeralis Schuster, 1949: 85 ) by Cambra & Quintero, 1997: 270.

Distribution. Nearctic, Neotropical.
