Type species. Sphaerophthalma [ sic!] cargilli Cockerell, 1895 (female), by original designation.
Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Dasymutilla Ashmead, 1899 according to Quintero & Cambra 2001b: 294. Subjectively invalid name.
Sex association. The male of the type species was described by Mickel, 1961: 103.
Distribution. Neotropical.
