Type species. Mutilla aurata Fabricius, 1775 (female), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Considered to include Bothriomutilla Ashmead, 1899 and Eurymutilla Ashmead, 1899 by André, 1902c: 48 (invalidly so since Ephutomorpha postdates both those names). Recognised as distinct from them by Brothers, 1975: 591 . Valid generic name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized; the males of other species were associated and described by André, 1902c: 18, 48.
