Gender. Masculine (Article 30.2.4 of the Code).

Type species. Mutilla montana Panzer, 1805 (female), by original designation (junior synonym of Mutilla halensis Fabricius, 1787 (female), according to Panzer, 1806: 212).

Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Physetopoda Schuster, 1949 according to Brothers, 1983a: 441 . Subjectively invalid name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized as such; the male of its senior synonym was associated and identified (as Mutilla ephippium Fabricius, 1793: 370 ) by Petersen, 1988: 163.

Distribution. Palaearctic.
