Protophotopsiella Schuster, 1949 (as subgenus of Protophotopsis Schuster, 1947 ). Ent. Amer. (N.S.) 29(3–4): 85. Male, female.

Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Protophotopsis ( Protophotopsiella) humeralis humeralis Schuster, 1949 (male), by monotypy.

Taxonomic history. Senior subjective synonym of Huacotilla Casal, 1962 . Valid subgeneric name.

Sex association. The female of the type species was associated and identified (as Huacotilla diaguita Casal, 1962d: 263 and Huacotilla hepperi Casal, 1962d: 261) by Cambra & Quintero, 1997: 270.

Distribution. Neotropical.
