Type species. Mutilla denticulata Smith, 1855 (female), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Senior subjective synonym of Paramutilla Mickel, 1973 and Mammomutilla Mickel, 1952 . Valid generic name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized; the males of other species were associated and one was identified (as Paramutilla halicta Mickel, 1973: 2 ) by Quintero & Cambra, 1996a: 338.

Distribution. Neotropical.
