Gender. Masculine.

Type species. Mutilla ( Sphaeropthalma) grandiceps Blake, 1872 (male, female; lectotype male), by monotypy.

Taxonomic history. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The type species was described from both sexes by Blake, 1872: 74.

Distribution. Nearctic.
